Miltenberg
Miltenberg, Germany
Day 5, Monday, July 3
Marc's Journal
In honor of our Australian and New Zealand friends, we've dubbed Miltenberg in their honor. Diane and I broke from the group and explored the town on our own on foot. It looks like a... Bavarian village. Surprise! If we had bigger suitcases, Diane would be buying Olivia toys and fun stuff from all the great shops here.

Today, we hopped on a bus and made our way to the town of Miltenberg. This Bavarian gem was fortunate enough to escape the ravages of war because of it’s location. The town is quite authentic because it didn’t need to be rebuilt after the war like so many other towns.
As we walked through the streets we noticed the quirky architecture of the buildings. They had a slightly crooked appearance, and we discovered that it was due to the smaller foundations compared to the upper parts of the structures. It turns out that in the past, taxes were based on the ground space of the building, rather than where the building extended to. It's fascinating how history and taxation practices can leave their mark on a place's character.
