More images and stories from the Cathedral

The cathedral had a shop located in the upper ceiling that employs a small army of stonemasons. It has models of the stonework catalogued and available to replace worn sections of the building. All of the beautiful sculptures are catalogued, organized, and locked in cages in true German fashion. I thought this photo of Diane was prophetic. Who knows when an angel is looking on. The roof is made out of lead sheets, a perfect material for low upkeep, durability, and intrinsic properties that kill moss growth.

Gargoyle water spouts. When it rains, the gargoyle shouts (and spews).

A unique interior view from above the sanctuary. The huge organ on the upper left is called the birds nest. It was hung from the roof with rods, since architects would not allow it to be fastened to the interior walls. The organist could not be afraid of heights.
